Which bike for this part of Sukhumvit
Honda ADV350, from THB 1,400 a day. An automatic 330cc scooter with traction control, ABS and storage under the seat. It suits Sukhumvit: stop-start traffic around the Asok junction, short hops between sois, a helmet locked away while you are inside. Weekly and monthly rates are on the ADV350 page.
Ducati Monster 937, from THB 2,900 a day. A manual 937cc motorcycle for experienced riders. It makes more sense for a weekend ride out of the city than for crawling along Sukhumvit at rush hour.
Riding around Asok
- The Asok intersection, where Sukhumvit meets Ratchadaphisek and Asok Montri, sits under BTS Asok and MRT Sukhumvit and is slow at peak hours. A side soi is often the quicker way round.
- Motorcycles are not allowed on Bangkok's tolled expressways at any engine size. Trips to Silom, Sathorn or the river run on Rama IV and other surface roads.
- Many Sukhumvit sois are one-way. Check the sign before you turn in.
Licence and deposit
Both bikes need a motorcycle licence: a Thai motorcycle licence, or your home licence plus an International Driving Permit that carries the motorcycle class.
