Renting a Ducati Monster in Bangkok: What You Need to Know

Published 2026-04-26

This Is Not a Beginner Bike

The Ducati Monster 937 is 111 horsepower on a naked frame with no fairing, no wind protection, and no electronic hand-holding beyond a basic traction control system. It rewards riders who know what they're doing. It punishes those who don't.

NOIRR rents this bike at ฿3,500 per day. Before you book, read this.

What the Monster 937 Actually Feels Like

The 937cc L-twin makes a sound unlike any Japanese bike. At low speed in Bangkok traffic it's docile, torquey, and easy to manage. The seat height is 820mm. Most riders find it comfortable for extended city use.

On the expressway or Rama II heading south, the character changes. The engine pulls hard from 4,000rpm. By 7,000 it's aggressive. The riding position is upright and relaxed at speed, which works well on Thai highways.

What this bike is not good for: lane filtering at 5km/h for 45 minutes in Sukhumvit rush hour. It can do it, but you'll be working harder than you need to. If your Bangkok riding is 80% city commuting, the Kawasaki Z900 at ฿2,800/day is more practical and nearly as fun.

If you want the Italian, you want the Italian. There's no rational argument against it.

Bangkok on a Ducati: The Reality

Bangkok traffic is dense and unpredictable. But it moves. The Ducati's narrow profile makes it easy to position cleanly in traffic. The brake performance is strong. The bike is stable.

Best time to ride: before 8am or after 8pm. The Asok-Ratchadaphisek loop at 9pm is one of the best urban rides in Southeast Asia. The Don Mueang Tollway to the airport at 6am, no traffic, is another.

For day trips: the Ducati is exactly what you want on the road to Khao Yai or the Chiang Rai highway if you're doing overnight runs. Two hours out of Bangkok the road opens up. The bike comes alive.

License Requirements

Thailand requires an International Driving Permit (IDP) with a motorcycle endorsement (Category A) to legally ride any motorcycle. This is not negotiable and it's not a formality. Your travel insurance is void if you ride without the correct IDP class. You will not be able to rent from NOIRR without one.

Get your IDP before you fly. In the UK, apply via the Post Office or AA. In the US, via AAA. In Australia, via NRMA or your state automobile club. In most countries it takes 24-48 hours and costs around 15-25 EUR/GBP/USD equivalent.

The motorcycle class on the IDP is a separate stamp from the car class. A car-only IDP does not cover motorcycles. Check your document carefully before you travel.

What's Included in the Rental

  • Delivery and collection anywhere in Bangkok (coordinate via WhatsApp)
  • Third-party liability insurance
  • 24/7 phone support if something goes wrong on the road
  • Fuel: you ride with a full tank, return it full

Helmet is provided. If you have your own gear, bring it. Bangkok is hot but riding without gloves on a bike this size is not something NOIRR recommends.

Deposit and Booking

A security deposit is held at the time of rental. The amount depends on the vehicle and rental duration. NOIRR does not hold your passport as deposit. This is one of the most common tourist complaints about Bangkok rental shops. NOIRR uses a cash or card deposit process that keeps your passport in your pocket where it belongs.

To book: message NOIRR on WhatsApp at +32491597038 or use the booking form at noirr.co/booking. Provide your dates, your IDP details, and your delivery address. NOIRR will confirm availability and send payment details.

Who This Bike Is For

You've ridden for at least two years. You're comfortable on 600cc or above. You've handled a bike in city traffic before. You understand that 111 horsepower responds to throttle input, not intention.

If that's you, the Monster 937 in Bangkok is one of those rental experiences worth booking a trip around. The city at night on this bike is something you'll remember.
